Independent analysis recommendations for the future Royal Australian Navy surface fleet include six Hunter Class (Type 26) frigates rather than nine.

The three Hobart Class destroyers ‘will be upgraded…with the latest US Navy Aegis combat system’ according to an Australian Govt release on the new ‘blueprint’. It will give them ‘upgraded air defence & strike capabilities.’

Eleven new ‘general purpose frigates’ will replace the Anzac Class warships, while six ‘Large Optionally Crewed Surface Vessels (LOSVs)…will significantly increase Navy’s long-range strike capacity.’ The future RAN will have 25 ‘minor war vessels’ too.
